Gold-Like Prices for Bananas Costs Soar in Bengaluru Ahead of Gauri Ganesh Festival

Bengaluru, September 2 – With the arrival of the Gauri Ganesh festival and a series of Shravan month celebrations, the price of bananas and banana leaves has skyrocketed in Bengaluru markets. The price per kilogram of bananas has already reached ₹150, and market experts predict it could touch ₹200 as the festival approaches.

The increase in demand for locally grown bananas, coupled with limited supply from neighboring states, has contributed to the price surge. Farmers in regions like Tumakuru are witnessing a significant economic boost as the prices continue to climb.

Traditionally, banana leaves, which are used for various rituals and offerings during this festive period, were sold at ₹30 to ₹40 per kilogram. However, with the onset of Shravan and the approaching Gauri Ganesh festival, the prices have escalated, reaching up to ₹150 per kilogram.

Local markets in Gubbi, Turuvekere, Chikkanayakanahalli, and surrounding areas of Tumakuru district have seen a rise in demand, particularly for bananas grown alongside areca nut crops. The higher quality and taste of locally produced bananas have made them more desirable than those imported from Tamil Nadu, further driving up prices.

Banana traders are preparing for a significant influx of sales just days before the festival, with large quantities of bananas being transported to major markets in Bengaluru, Mysuru, and beyond. The anticipation of even higher prices in the coming days has farmers and traders alike gearing up for a busy and profitable season.

This surge in banana prices highlights the economic impact of cultural and religious festivities on local agricultural markets, providing a timely boost to farmers in the region.
