Karnataka Issues Yellow Alert for 10 Districts as Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds Forecasted

Bengaluru, Sept. 4 — The Karnataka State Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for ten districts due to forecasts of heavy rainfall and strong winds. The alert comes as the state braces for significant weather changes, with rainfall expected to impact various regions over the coming days.

According to the department, heavy rain is anticipated in Karnataka’s coastal districts, including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada. These areas are expected to experience continuous rainfall until September 8. Additionally, districts in northern and southern interior regions, such as Belagavi, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, and Shivamogga, are also under the yellow alert due to the forecasted heavy rains.

Weather Forecast:

The department has warned that the intensity of the rainfall will increase across these districts, with wind speeds potentially reaching 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. In Bengaluru, residents can expect cloudy conditions with light showers. Coastal districts are likely to see persistent rain, while Chikkamagaluru will experience rainfall for the next four days. Hassan, Kodagu, and Shivamogga will also witness continuous rain over the same period.

Impact and Local Disruptions:

The heavy rains have already caused significant disruptions in the Kalghatgi region of Dharwad. Local markets and businesses have been severely affected by the downpour, which began on Tuesday and continued into the evening, disrupting trade activities and causing inconvenience for both vendors and customers.

Neighboring States' Situation:

In neighboring Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, heavy rains have intensified, resulting in the deaths of 35 people due to rain-related incidents. Approximately 47,000 people have been relocated from flood-affected areas. The Chief Ministers of both states have urged the central government to declare the situation a national disaster and provide necessary relief.

The Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted further heavy rainfall in Adilabad, Khammam, and Mahbubabad districts of Telangana on Wednesday. The widespread rainfall across these regions has been attributed to a drop in atmospheric pressure over the Bay of Bengal, affecting the weather patterns significantly.

As the monsoon continues to impact Karnataka and its neighboring states, residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
