Karnataka RTO Cracks Down on Private Bus Fare Hikes Ahead of Ganesh Festival

Bengaluru, Sept. 6 — In anticipation of the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, the Karnataka Road Transport Department (RTO) has launched a crackdown on private bus operators raising fares excessively. The operation, led by Additional Commissioner Mallikarjuna, is aimed at preventing fare hikes that exploit festival travelers.

RTO Inspects Private Buses Statewide

Following directives from Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy and Department Commissioner A.M. Yogesh, the RTO is conducting inspections across Karnataka, including Bengaluru, Anand Rao Circle, Goraguntepalya, Hebbal, K.R. Puram, and other key locations. The inspections are focused on ensuring that private bus operators do not engage in fare gouging during the festival period. Any operator found violating fare regulations will face blacklisting and permit cancellations.

Additional KSRTC Buses Deployed

To accommodate the surge in passengers heading to their hometowns for the festival, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has added 1,500 extra buses. Routes include major destinations like Dharmasthala, Kukke Subramanya, Shimoga, Davangere, Hubballi, Dharwad, and more. The service will also extend to various towns and cities such as Vijayapura, Gokarna, and Mangalore.

BMTC Buses to Supplement KSRTC Services

In light of a shortage of KSRTC buses, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will operate 200 additional buses to support the festive rush. These buses will serve routes to Shimoga, Dharwad, Tumkur, Kolar, and Mysore. BMTC Chief Prabhakar Reddy has indicated that more buses will be deployed if needed.

Authorities are committed to ensuring smooth travel for festival-goers and maintaining fair pricing practices during this peak season.
