Karnataka Women’s Commission Demands Investigation into Suspicious Death in BS Yediyurappa's POCSO Case

Bengaluru, September 2: Former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa faces mounting troubles as the Karnataka State Women’s Commission demands a thorough investigation into the suspicious death of a woman who had accused him of sexual misconduct under the POCSO Act. The commission has sent a letter to the Bengaluru City Police Commissioner, urging a detailed probe into the incident.

The case, which is currently under trial in the High Court, revolves around allegations made by a minor girl's mother against Yediyurappa, claiming sexual assault. Recently, the complainant's death has raised significant concerns, prompting Karnataka State Women’s Commission Chairperson Dr. Nagalakshmi Chaudhary to call for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Dr. Nagalakshmi, addressing the media, made it clear that there will be no leniency in this case, stating, "Whether it is a former Chief Minister or an ordinary citizen, if wrongdoing is found, there will be no question of letting anyone go unpunished." She emphasized that the commission is keen on uncovering the truth behind the woman’s death and has instructed the Bengaluru Police to submit a detailed report on both the death and the subsequent funeral procedures, which have also come under scrutiny.

The commission's action follows suspicions raised by the deceased woman's family regarding her sudden death, which was allegedly attributed to cancer. The family has expressed doubts about the cause of death, noting several irregularities during the body handover process. The daughter of the deceased had visited her just two days before her death, further deepening the family's suspicions.

This case originally came to light during the Lok Sabha elections, when an FIR was lodged against Yediyurappa under the POCSO Act and Section 354(A) of the IPC. The complaint was filed at the Sadashivanagar Police Station, where the victim accused Yediyurappa of sexually harassing her daughter. The complaint also named 53 others, including senior police officers, politicians, and businessmen.

The Women’s Commission’s firm stance on this issue highlights the seriousness of the allegations and the potential implications for the accused, as the investigation continues under close scrutiny.
