Mysuru: In a significant crackdown on the misuse of Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards, the Mysuru district administration has identified and canceled over 69,000 BPL cards that were obtained using fake documents. The operation, led by the Department of Food and Civil Supplies, has intensified in recent weeks as part of efforts to eliminate ineligible beneficiaries from the system.

The drive, which began a month ago, has already resulted in the cancellation of more than 12,000 BPL cards. The district, which includes Mysuru city, currently has 6.44 lakh BPL cardholders. Under the directive of the state government, officials have been tasked with identifying those who have acquired BPL cards through fraudulent means.

The district administration has announced that those found ineligible will have their BPL cards converted to Above Poverty Line (APL) cards. This initiative aims to ensure that only those who genuinely need assistance benefit from government welfare schemes.

Mysuru Deputy Commissioner Lakshmekantareddy emphasized the importance of transparency and fairness in the distribution of BPL cards. He also assured that efforts would be made to prevent any confusion or issues related to the upcoming Dasara festival, particularly regarding the distribution of passes and Gold Cards.

The operation is part of a broader effort to curb corruption and ensure that government resources are allocated to those who are truly in need. The district administration has pledged to continue its efforts to maintain the integrity of the welfare system and prevent any further misuse of BPL cards.
