The main suspect, believed to have brutally murdered Mahalakshmi and dismembered her body into 59 pieces, has reportedly died by suicide in Odisha, according to Bengaluru Police. Mukti Ranjan Ray, who was allegedly on the run, was found hanging from a tree in a village under the Dhusuri Police Station's jurisdiction in Bhadrak district.

The 30-year-old’s body was discovered by local authorities, who immediately notified Bengaluru police, who had been searching for Ray. Initial reports suggest that Ray had briefly returned to his village on Tuesday before leaving, after which his body was found on the village's outskirts. His family identified the body, which has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover additional details about the case.

Suicide Note Confession

Odisha's Additional Director General of Law and Order, Sanjay Kumar, revealed that a suicide note was found with Ray’s body, in which he allegedly confessed to the murder of Mahalakshmi. “The Odisha Police have registered an unnatural death case. Based on the suicide note, Bengaluru Police have confirmed that Ray is the accused in this horrific murder,” Kumar told The Indian Express.

Earlier today, News18 reported that Bengaluru Police had identified Ray as the prime suspect in the killing of 29-year-old Mahalakshmi, a saleswoman. According to a police source, Ray and Mahalakshmi were colleagues, and Ray had expressed dissatisfaction with her relationship with another man. However, the other man's identity remains undisclosed.

Timeline of the Gruesome Case

Mahalakshmi was last seen at work on September 1, and her family reported that her phone had been switched off since September 2. On September 21, her decomposing body, dismembered into several pieces and stuffed in a refrigerator, was found by her mother and sister at her residence in Vyalikaval.

A post-mortem report confirmed that Mahalakshmi’s body had been chopped into 59 pieces. Authorities have sent samples of her intestines for toxicology analysis to determine if she was poisoned before her death. Forensic teams are also analyzing fingerprints found on the refrigerator to gather more evidence in this gruesome case.
