Saharsa: Despite the complete prohibition of alcohol in Bihar, the illegal liquor trade continues unabated. The latest incident occurred in the Simri Bakhtiyarpur police station area of Saharsa district, where police, acting on a tip-off, seized 225 cartons of English liquor from a truck loaded with gravel near the Sardiya village. The truck bore a West Bengal registration number.

Clever Concealment and Arrests

The liquor cartons, amounting to 2,025 liters, were cleverly concealed under the gravel. The estimated value of the seized liquor runs into lakhs of rupees. The police arrested both the truck driver and a businessman from the scene. The arrested driver has been identified as Vishisht Yadav from Pirpainti in Bhagalpur district, while the businessman is Pramod Yadav from Saroja village in the Balwahat police station area of Saharsa district.

Police Action and Ongoing Investigation

Simri Bakhtiyarpur SDPO Mukesh Kumar Thakur stated that continuous actions are being taken against liquor traders under the directive of the Superintendent of Police. Acting on the tip-off about a large consignment of liquor being transported, the police team conducted this successful operation. The arrested individuals are currently being interrogated and will be sent to judicial custody.

This incident highlights the persistent challenges in enforcing the liquor ban in Bihar and the ongoing efforts by the police to curb illegal activities.
