Chennai Rains Turn Flyover into Parking Lot as Residents Battle Waterlogging Chaos!

Chennai, India — Heavy rainfall on Tuesday brought Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu to a standstill, causing severe waterlogging and widespread disruption. The ongoing downpour led to traffic jams, disrupted public transportation, and even forced the cancellation of several domestic flights. In the midst of the chaos, residents sought creative ways to protect their belongings, leading to a viral scene of cars parked on a flyover.

A video shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by India Tech Guide captured this unusual sight: vehicles lining the bridge to avoid potential water damage caused by flooding streets.

Flooding Turns Flyover into Parking Lot

As Chennai streets transformed into waterways due to the unrelenting rains, residents faced limited options to protect their vehicles. Many decided to move their cars to higher ground, turning a flyover into an impromptu parking lot. The makeshift solution was aimed at shielding the vehicles from waterlogging, which had engulfed large parts of the city.

Meteorological Updates

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the heavy rainfall was triggered by a well-marked low-pressure area that has since intensified into a depression. The IMD has forecast that the depression is likely to cross the Chennai coast by the morning of October 17, prompting continued warnings for heavy rain and potential flooding in the coming days.

Widespread Disruptions

The torrential rains wreaked havoc on the city’s transportation infrastructure, leading to heavy traffic congestion and major disruptions in public transit. The flooding also affected air travel, with several domestic flights being canceled. Commuters struggled to navigate flooded streets, and emergency services have been working round the clock to provide assistance.

Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors and avoid non-essential travel as the city grapples with the severe weather conditions.
