Chennai: Edappadi K. Palaniswami, citing his age and health issues, has filed a petition in a special court seeking exemption from appearing in person in a defamation case brought against him by DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran. The case, which stems from comments made during the Lok Sabha election campaign, has led Palaniswami to request relief from court appearances due to his need for ongoing medication at the age of 70.

The AIADMK General Secretary and Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly emphasized his respect for the judiciary and clarified that his request was not intended to delay proceedings. He stated, "I am a senior citizen, currently 70 years old, and have held the position of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Due to health issues, I am on lifelong medication and request exemption from personal appearance in this case."
