Santhome High Road Now Partially Two-Way: New Traffic Rule in Effect from May 9

Chennai, May 12: There’s a new traffic rule on Santhome High Road in Chennai. Starting May 9, cars and bikes can go both ways on this road — but only during certain times of the day.
Earlier, this road was a one-way road — you could only drive in one direction and had to use Loop Road to get to MRC Nagar. That took more time. Now, the rule has changed a bit to help drivers save time.
New Rule for Santhome High Road
Here’s how it works:
-
From 7:30 AM to 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM, you can’t go both ways. The road stays one-way, and drivers must use Loop Road.
-
During any other time (like late morning, afternoon, or night), Santhome High Road becomes two-way, which means cars can go in both directions.
So, if you're trying to get to MRC Nagar during the day or night (not during rush hours), you don’t have to take the long way anymore.
What the Police Are Doing
Police are watching the road and helping drivers with the new rule. They haven’t put up many signs yet, but some are already there to guide people. If drivers follow the timings, things will run smoothly.
What People Are Saying
Some people who live or work near Santhome High Road are happy. “Now it’s easier to go home without taking the long road,” one shopkeeper said. But they also want everyone to follow the new rule, or it could get messy again.
