Delhi Elections Muslim Support: Maulana Sajid Rashidi Backs BJP, Says 'I Want to Hug Modi'

Delhi Elections Muslim Support: Maulana Sajid Rashidi, the president of the All India Imam Association, has made a surprising political statement. He recently revealed that he voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Delhi elections for the first time in his life. Rashidi stated that his decision was aimed at breaking the perception that Muslims do not vote for BJP.
Breaking the Perception About Muslim Votes
Speaking about his decision, Maulana Sajid Rashidi said,
"I have voted for BJP for the first time in my life. By doing this, I wanted to challenge the perception that Muslims do not vote for BJP."
He emphasized that he is not asking the Muslim community to vote collectively but rather encouraging them to break the stereotype that they always vote against BJP.
‘I Want to Hug Modi’ – Rashidi’s Message to BJP
Maulana Rashidi expressed his admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying he wants to hug him the same way Modi hugged the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He further urged BJP to embrace the Muslim community with sincerity.
"I want Modi ji to hug me just like he hugged the UAE President. BJP should also genuinely embrace Muslims," Rashidi stated.
Criticism of Other Political Parties
Rashidi also criticized other political parties, questioning their treatment of the Muslim community. He pointed out that:
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP): He accused Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal of failing to support Muslims during the Delhi riots and targeting Tablighi Jamaat during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Congress: He claimed that Congress has not done anything significant for Muslims, highlighting how Rahul Gandhi visited Mustafabad during the riots but avoided meeting Tahir Hussain.
‘BJP is Not Untouchable for Us’
Rejecting the idea that Muslims should only vote for certain parties, Rashidi stated,
"BJP is not untouchable for us. We are not bonded laborers of Congress or Samajwadi Party. Every political party treats Muslims the same way."
He also dismissed the fear that BJP could drive Muslims out of India, asserting that there is no reason for Muslims to be afraid of the party.
Muslims Have Also Voted for BJP
According to Rashidi, he is not the only one who has supported BJP; many Muslims have also voted for the party. He urged people to stop fearing BJP and vote based on their rights and expectations.
Maulana Sajid Rashidi’s statement has sparked political discussions, as his support for BJP challenges long-standing beliefs about Muslim voting patterns. Whether this influences a shift in Muslim votes remains to be seen, but his remarks have certainly added a new dimension to the political landscape.
