Auto-Taxi Strike: Delhi Auto and Taxi Drivers to Go on Strike on August 22 and 23
Residents of Delhi are likely to face significant transportation challenges as auto and taxi drivers plan to go on strike on August 22 and 23. The two-day strike, organized by over 15 auto and taxi driver unions from Delhi-NCR, is expected to take nearly 400,000 vehicles off the roads.
The unions have called for the strike to protest against the growing impact of app-based cab services on their livelihoods. According to the unions, while app-based cab services have hurt their earnings, these companies are also charging hefty commissions from cab drivers. Despite their grievances, they claim that neither the central nor state governments have taken any action to address the issue.
The unions are demanding that the government intervene to find a solution to their problems. The strike is expected to cause major disruptions in daily commuting, with residents facing potential difficulties in finding transportation during the two-day period.
