CBI Files FIR Against Former Medical Director and Two Companies in Lok Nayak Hospital Corruption Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed an FIR against Dr. Suresh Kumar, the former Medical Director of Lok Nayak Hospital (LNH), Dr. Hem Prakash, the former Procurement Officer, and two private companies involved in a corruption case concerning the procurement of medical and surgical consumables.
The FIR was registered on July 30 after a preliminary inquiry based on information gathered by the agency. The case names Dr. Suresh Kumar, the then Medical Director of LNH, Dr. Hem Prakash, the former Procurement Officer, Suresh Kumar Chaudhary, the proprietor of Adison Equipment Company, and Mayank Parashar, the proprietor of S R Surgical, accusing them of conspiracy and breach of trust, causing a loss of crores of rupees to the government.
The inquiry revealed that between 2018 and 2021, S R Surgical, in collaboration with Dr. Hem Prakash, caused a significant financial loss by supplying branded medicines instead of the requested generic ones, even though there was no specific demand for branded medicines from the hospital’s various departments.
The FIR also details that an open tender was issued on May 31, 2017, on the Delhi government’s procurement portal for various consumables, including macerators. Five firms, including Adison Equipment and Faith Biotech Pvt. Ltd., participated in the tender process. Adison Equipment was selected as the lowest bidder (L-1) for supplying most of the items, including macerators, while Faith Biotech was also selected for supplying other products. The rate contract for both companies was valid from January 29, 2018, to January 28, 2020.
The CBI claims that after the validity of this contract expired in 2020, the LNH authority extended the contract multiple times until July 13, 2021, without inviting a fresh tender. The agency pointed out that no valid reasons were provided by LNH officials for not issuing a new tender during this extended period.
The CBI’s investigation into this matter is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
