Delhi CM Atishi Denied Visit to Detained Activist Sonam Wangchuk: Is Democracy Under Siege by BJP?

Delhi Chief Minister Atishi has raised serious concerns about the government's actions against environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was detained while attempting to enter the capital.

Detention of Sonam Wangchuk: Sonam Wangchuk, an environmentalist, was arrested near the Singhu border while leading a march to Delhi with supporters. His detention has sparked widespread criticism.

Blocked Access to Police Station: Atishi attempted to visit Wangchuk at the Bhawana police station but was denied entry, leading her to question the BJP-led central government's commitment to democratic rights.

Political Statements: In a press conference, Atishi accused the BJP of fearing democracy, stating that their actions would ultimately end LG governance in Ladakh and diminish BJP's hold in Delhi.

Heavy Police Presence: The Bhawana police station was reportedly under tight security, preventing Atishi and others from accessing the detained activist.

Public Outcry in Ladakh: Protests erupted in Ladakh demanding Wangchuk's release, with crowds chanting against the Delhi police. Local MP Haji Hanifa visited the Singhu border to express solidarity.

Longstanding Struggle: Hanifa emphasized that the people of Ladakh have been peacefully fighting for their rights for the past three years and were committed to continuing their struggle despite governmental resistance.
