Toll-Free Ride Ends: Get Ready to Pay as Dwarka Expressway Rolls Out Satellite-Based Toll by October!

Gurugram, India – Free travel on the Dwarka Expressway is set to end by the close of October, as drivers will soon be required to pay toll fees. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has completed the installation of a satellite-based toll plaza on this key route, and the Ministry of Transport is finalizing the toll rates.

The expressway, a major infrastructure project, spans 28 kilometers and costs around ₹9,000 crore to build. Of this, approximately 18.9 kilometers run through Gurugram. NHAI has set up a 23-lane toll plaza near the village of Chauma, located at the Delhi-Gurugram border. Around 20,000 vehicles currently use this expressway daily to travel from Gurugram to Dwarka, Delhi.

Toll Collection to Begin Soon

An official from NHAI confirmed that the toll plaza is ready, and signal installations are in the final stages. The Ministry of Transport is now determining the per-kilometer toll rate, which is expected to be finalized by the end of this month. Once the rates are established, toll collection will begin based on the distance traveled by each vehicle.

The expressway, which opened its Gurugram section in February this year, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour, the expressway is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Gurugram once fully operational.

CCTV and Speed Monitoring

In addition to toll collection, NHAI is planning to install CCTV cameras along the entire stretch of the expressway. These cameras will monitor vehicle speeds, and any driver exceeding the 100 km/h limit will receive an automatic e-challan (traffic violation ticket). The installation work is expected to begin soon.

As the project nears completion, the introduction of tolls marks a new phase in the operation of the Dwarka Expressway, which aims to provide smoother, faster travel for thousands of commuters between Gurugram and Delhi.
