Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert in Hyderabad, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in various parts of Telangana. The ongoing rains have already caused flooding in low-lying areas and disrupted road connections in some villages. Here are the top ten updates on the current situation:

Heavy Rainfall Expected in Multiple Districts

IMD Red Alert: The IMD has officially issued a red alert for Hyderabad and other districts, predicting isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on September 1st and 2nd. The Met Centre has specifically warned of extremely heavy rain in Adilabad, Nizamabad, Kamareddy, Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet, and other regions on Sunday.

Affected Districts: Other districts like Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Jagital, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Warangal, and nearby areas are also expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Preparedness and Response

NDRF Teams on Standby: National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are currently stationed in Hyderabad and Vijayawada and are ready to be deployed if necessary.

Flash Flood Risk: The IMD has highlighted several districts at risk of flash floods within the next 24 hours, including Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jagtial, Jangaon, Khammam, Kumaram Bheem, Mahabubabad, and others.

Government Actions

CM's Directive: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has instructed officials to stay vigilant and take immediate action to prevent any incidents. He has also advised the relocation of residents from low-lying areas to relief camps without delay.

School Closures: Due to the red alert and heavy rainfall forecast, all primary and secondary schools in Hyderabad district will remain closed on September 2.

High-Level Meeting: Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari and DGP Jitender conducted a teleconference with district Collectors and SPs. They emphasized the importance of deploying NDRF teams if the situation worsens.

Precautionary Measures: The Chief Secretary has directed district Collectors to take all necessary precautions to prevent loss of life and property as heavy rains are expected to continue for the next two days.

Public Safety Measures

Control Rooms: Control rooms have been set up in every district Collector's office, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and the state Secretariat to monitor the situation and respond quickly to emergencies.

Parental Advisory: Authorities have urged parents to closely monitor weather warnings and ensure their children's safety during this period. The state government has also prepared a proactive plan to evacuate residents from flood-affected areas and establish relief camps.
