IMD Issues Heavy Rain Alert for 5 States: Advises People to Stay Indoors

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for five states—Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana—starting September 1. The IMD has warned of a strong weather system that could bring heavy rainfall, particularly in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region and Telangana, where a red alert has been declared. Residents in these areas are advised to venture out only if absolutely necessary.

Heavy Rainfall Expected in Madhya Pradesh

The IMD forecasts that a strong rain system is likely to become active in Madhya Pradesh beginning September 1. Districts such as Sehore, Balaghat, Damoh, Dewas, Dindori, Sagar, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, and Seoni could experience heavy rainfall over the next two to four days. The public is urged to check weather updates before leaving their homes.

Maharashtra to Experience Cooler Temperatures

In Maharashtra, the IMD has predicted cloudy skies with the maximum temperature ranging between 25°C and 32°C in Mumbai and surrounding areas over the next four days. A yellow alert has been issued, indicating light to heavy rainfall across various districts. Strong winds are expected, and travelers heading to airports or railway stations are advised to leave home early.

Heavy Rains Forecasted in Karnataka

Karnataka is also expected to see heavy rainfall in various districts, particularly in areas along the Arabian Sea, where a red alert has been issued. Odisha may experience light rain, while the weather is expected to remain normal in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and other northern states.

Gujarat Sees Some Relief

Gujarat, which has been experiencing intermittent rainfall in recent days, is likely to see some relief. The storm over the Arabian Sea has now shifted towards Oman, providing a break from heavy rains for the next few days.

The IMD’s alert serves as a crucial reminder for residents in the affected areas to stay cautious and take necessary precautions. With the potential for heavy rainfall, flooding, and disruptions, it is advisable to stay informed and prepared.
