Underworld Threats Resurface: Who Ordered Baba Siddique's Shocking Mumbai Assassination?
MUMBAI — Baba Siddique, a prominent political leader and businessman, was shot dead in Mumbai, leaving the city in shock. His murder has raised questions about who was behind the killing, and now, old threats he received from underworld don Dawood Ibrahim have come back into focus.
Siddique, a well-known figure in Maharashtra's political scene, had powerful connections in both political and entertainment circles. However, his high-profile status also led to conflicts, including a land dispute that allegedly put him on Dawood Ibrahim's radar years ago.
Threats from the Underworld
According to reports, Siddique had received a threat from Dawood Ibrahim, the notorious underworld figure, over a land-related disagreement. This threat became public when it was reported in Saamana, the official publication of the undivided Shiv Sena party. The dispute reportedly involved Ahmed Langda, one of Ibrahim’s close associates, over a property in Mumbai. At the time, another underworld figure, Chhota Shakeel, had warned Siddique to stay away from the matter or face dire consequences.
Siddique, who had strong political connections, filed a case with the police, leading to Langda's arrest under the stringent MCOCA law. It was following this arrest that Dawood Ibrahim allegedly called Siddique and threatened to have a movie made about him, titled Ek Tha MLA ("Once There Was an MLA"), with filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma.
Alleged Ties to the Underworld
Over the years, there have been allegations linking Siddique to underworld activities, largely due to his close friendship with Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, who himself had past connections to Dawood Ibrahim’s D-Company. Despite these accusations, Siddique maintained that he was not involved in any criminal dealings.
Ongoing Investigation
Mumbai police are actively investigating Siddique’s murder. So far, two suspects have been arrested in connection with the case, while a third has been identified and is being pursued by authorities. The third suspect is believed to be from Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, and had been working in Pune for the past six years.
The investigation continues, as Siddique's family and supporters are left grieving the loss of a man who played a significant role in the state's political landscape.
Remembering Baba Siddique
Baba Siddique’s assassination has left a void in Maharashtra’s political sphere. Known for his business acumen and political influence, Siddique was a respected figure whose contributions to the community will not be forgotten.
As the investigation unfolds, his supporters hope that justice will be served and those responsible for his death will be brought to justice.
