Maharashtra: Two Feared Trapped After 3-Storey Building Collapses in Navi Mumbai's Shahbaz Village

NAVI MUMBAI: At least two people are feared trapped under the rubble after a three-storey building collapsed in Shahbaz village, Navi Mumbai, early Saturday morning. Rescue operations are underway, with the police, fire brigade, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams present at the site.
According to Kailas Shinde, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner, the building, a ground plus three-storey structure, collapsed around 5 am. "This building is located in Shahbaz village, which falls under the Belapur ward. It housed 13 flats. So far, two people have been rescued, and two are likely still trapped. NDRF teams are on-site, and rescue efforts are ongoing," Shinde informed reporters.
He further mentioned that the two rescued individuals have been admitted to a hospital, where their condition is reported to be stable.
"It is a 10-year-old building. An investigation is underway, and action will be taken against the building's owner," said the commissioner.
This incident follows a similar tragedy last week, where an 80-year-old woman was killed, and four others were injured after a portion of a balcony of a four-storey residential building in south Mumbai collapsed. The previous incident occurred at Rubinnisa Manzil on Sleater Road, near Grant Road railway station, around 11 am, according to a fire brigade official.
