Mumbai Engineer Attempts Suicide by Jumping from Atal Setu, Watch Video

Mumbai: A 38-year-old engineer reportedly attempted suicide by jumping off the Atal Setu trans-harbour bridge in Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon, according to police sources. Authorities launched a search operation to locate him later in the evening.

The individual, identified as K. Shriniwas from Dombivli, is believed to have been under severe financial stress. He reportedly parked his car at the Nhava Sheva end of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, also known as Atal Setu, before leaping into the sea around 12:30 PM, an official said.

Shriniwas had left his home around 11:30 PM on Tuesday and had spoken with his wife and four-year-old daughter over the phone before taking the drastic action, the official added. His family disclosed that he was grappling with significant financial difficulties. Earlier this year, in 2023, Shriniwas had also attempted suicide in Kuwait by ingesting floor cleaner liquid while working there.

This incident follows a similar case on March 20, when a female doctor from Thane also committed suicide by jumping from Atal Setu.
