Mumbai: Man Dies After Speeding SUV Driven by 17-Year-Old Crashes Into His Bike in Goregaon
Mumbai: A tragic accident occurred in Mumbai's Goregaon area early Thursday morning, where a 24-year-old man lost his life after a speeding SUV, driven by a 17-year-old boy, collided with his motorcycle. The incident took place around 4 a.m., and the young driver, along with two others, including the SUV's owner, has been arrested by the police.
The victim, identified as Navin Vaishnaw, was on his morning milk delivery route when a Mahindra Scorpio, reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road, crashed into his bike. The impact was severe, and the SUV driver fled the scene after the collision. However, the vehicle struck an electric pole shortly afterward, and the teenage driver, who sustained injuries, was apprehended by the police.
Upon receiving a report of the accident, police officers arrived at the scene and rushed Vaishnaw to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Authorities have filed charges against the 17-year-old driver, the SUV's owner, Iqbal Jivani, aged 48, and his 21-year-old son, Mohammed Faz Iqbal Jivani. The police were able to track down the accused using CCTV footage and subsequently seized the vehicle.
In an effort to determine whether the teenage driver was under the influence of alcohol during the incident, the police have sent his blood samples for laboratory testing. Additionally, investigators are probing whether the accused had attended a party with friends prior to the accident.
This incident bears a striking resemblance to a previous case in Pune, where a 17-year-old, allegedly intoxicated, drove a Porsche into a motorcycle, resulting in the deaths of two IT engineers, Aneesh Awadhiya and his friend Ashwini Koshta, on May 19. The Pune accident sparked significant public outrage, especially after the teenager involved was granted bail under conditions such as writing a 300-word essay on road safety. He was later placed in an observation home until June 5.
