Mumbai News: A massive turnout of job seekers at Air India Airport Services Ltd in Mumbai's Kalina led to chaotic scenes on Tuesday. These scenes are from Tuesday outside Mumbai Airport. Over 25,000 applicants turned up for 600 loader positions at the airport, reflecting the state of unemployment in the country.

The situation has now sparked political debates as well. According to the official notification, the walk-in interviews were for these positions. Learn about the number of vacancies available.

As per the notification, walk-in interviews for various positions were scheduled from July 12 to July 16. The highest number of vacancies were for the positions of handyman, with 2,216 openings, and utility agents, with 22 openings.

Additionally, Air India released another notification stating that applications for these positions could be submitted until July 14. Recently, Air India issued a vacancy list through a notification for AI Airport Services recruitment at Mumbai Airport. The recruitment includes positions for customer service executives, including senior customer service executives. Applicants for the senior customer service executive positions must be no older than 33 years. OBC candidates are granted a 3-year age relaxation, while SC/ST candidates receive a 5-year relaxation. For customer service executive positions, the maximum age is set at 28 years, with provisions for age relaxation for reserved categories.

The notification specified that applications were to be submitted for 343 senior executive customer service positions and 706 customer service executive positions.

In a notification dated June 28, the company stated: “AI Airport Services Ltd (formerly known as Air India Air Transport Services Limited) (AIASL) wishes to fill in existing vacancies as per the estimated requirements and maintain a wait-list for vacancies arising in future. Indian Nationals (Male & Female) who meet the requirements stipulated as mentioned herein, may apply for various posts at Mumbai international airport on a Fixed Term Contract basis (3 years), which may be renewed subject to their performance and the requirements of AI Airport Services Limited. The number of vacancies is indicative and may vary as per operational requirements.”


The notification also mentioned, “The reservation will be as per the Presidential Directives. The actual reservation of vacancies would depend upon the prevailing strength at the appointment time.”

Despite the chaos, the company has assured that all submitted CVs will be reviewed, and eligible candidates will be contacted for further processing.

This incident follows a similar situation in Bharuch, Gujarat, where hundreds of job seekers showed up for an interview organized by the chemical firm Thermax Company for just 10 positions. A video of the large crowd struggling to enter the interview center also went viral on social media.
