Mumbai News: A tragic accident on the Old Sion Panvel Highway early Monday morning resulted in one death and four injuries. The incident occurred around 6 AM when a group of six youths from Owale Village, Uran, were returning home after a pilgrimage to the Ekvira Temple in Lonavala.

The driver, identified as 21-year-old Ajay Vishnu Gire, allegedly lost control of the car, causing it to overturn. Gire died on the spot. Among the other passengers, Gajanan Devkar (22) sustained serious injuries, while Nilesh Manjulkar (19), Subash Mali (24), Dnyaneshwar Mali (23), and Gopal Mali (19) suffered minor injuries.

Police Investigation

A police officer from Panvel police station stated, "We have booked the driver for rash and negligent driving and for causing death due to negligence." According to the police, the group had gone on a pilgrimage on Sunday. After visiting a friend's place in Talegaon on their way back, they resumed their journey around 2 AM on Monday.

Sequence of Events

Survivors informed the police that Gopal Mali initially drove the vehicle until they took a short break in Lonavala. After the break, Gire took over the driving. At approximately 6 AM on the Old Mumbai Pune Highway, Gire lost control, leading to the car's overturn. It is suspected that Gire might have fallen asleep while driving, causing the accident.
