Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddiqui was shot dead in Bandra, Maharashtra, on Saturday evening. His assassination, just ahead of the Maharashtra elections, has sent shockwaves through the state's political landscape. The incident occurred on the night of Dussehra, a day marked by heightened political tension between the Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde factions of Shiv Sena.

According to police reports, the shooting took place in Bandra East. After being shot, Baba Siddiqui was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he was declared dead. Following his death, a crowd of supporters began gathering outside the hospital. It has been reported that two suspects have been taken into custody, and the situation in the area remains tense. Baba Siddiqui was the father of MLA Zeeshan Siddiqui and had recently joined the NCP.

Details of the Incident

Baba Siddiqui was leaving his office at around 9:15 PM on Saturday evening when the attack occurred. He was setting off fireworks near his office when three men, with their faces covered by cloth, emerged from a car and fired three rounds at him. Baba Siddiqui was struck in the chest by one of the bullets, and another hit one of his associates in the leg. The shooting took place near Ram Mandir, close to his office.

Immediately after being shot, Baba Siddiqui collapsed, and bystanders quickly rushed him to Lilavati Hospital. Police were alerted and arrived at the scene soon after.

Two suspects have already been detained for questioning, although investigations are still ongoing. Following the shooting, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar contacted the hospital administration to inquire about the situation.
