Pune Police Arrest Seven in Connection with Murder Plot Amid Rising Gang Violence

PUNE — The Pune Police have arrested seven individuals following an attempted murder that occurred in the Loni-Kand region. The incident is linked to an ongoing gang conflict, where the assailants, seeking revenge for a previous killing, attempted to target their rivals.
On Sunday night, a gang of notorious criminals, motivated by a quest for vengeance, aimed to kill two individuals by brandishing pistols. The police acted swiftly, detaining the suspects from various locations and confiscating seven pistols and 23 live cartridges.
The accused are identified as Shubham alias Annasaheb Matter Anil Jagtap (27), Sumit Uttreshwar Jadhav (26), Amit Mhasku Avchare (27), Omkar alias Bhayya Ashok Jadhav (24), Ajay alias Sagar Balkrishna Hedge (27), Raj Basavaraj Swami (26), and Latikesh Gautam Pol (22). Under the guidance of Senior Inspector Pandit Rejitwad, Assistant Inspector Ravindra Godse and a team of officers conducted the operation.
The recent escalation in gang violence follows the murder of Kunal Pol, a police officer's son, which had sparked significant unrest. In 2015, Vishal Satpute and his accomplices killed Pol over a financial dispute, using firearms and knives. The accused in this case were later imprisoned but recently released on bail.
In a bid for retribution, Avchare and Jadhav planned an attack against Satpute and another suspect, Rohan Lakshman Chavan. They plotted to kill the two as they traveled from Saswad to their home in Kolwadi. However, the assailants’ attempts were thwarted when their weapons misfired.
Following the complaint filed with the police, teams from Loni-Kand launched an investigation, leading to the apprehension of the suspects in Mundhwa and Katraj. The main accused, Amit Avchare, had previously been exiled for two years, a term which ended two months ago.
The arrests underscore the growing issue of gang violence in Pune and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb these violent conflicts.
