Pune: Severe Water Logging in Riverbank Societies as Khadakwasla Dam Increases Release

Pune: As the discharge from Khadakwasla Dam increased, riverbank societies on Sinhagad Road in Pune experienced severe water logging. Societies, streets, and shops in the Ekta Nagar area were submerged. The increase in water discharge happened around midnight while residents were asleep, causing chaos and panic among the citizens.

Residents allege that they received no prior warning from the administration about the potential flooding risk. Over 200 people found themselves trapped as water levels rose unexpectedly. Following the flooding, the fire brigade arrived on the scene to assist with the situation.

Currently, 35,000 cusecs of water is being released from the Khadakwasla Dam. Due to heavy rainfall in the dam area, the discharge rate increased fourfold overnight. The Irrigation Department has informed that the discharge rate may be adjusted as necessary.\
