Pune: 36-Year-Old Techie Commits Suicide Due to Manager's Harassment; Case Registered After a Month

In a tragic incident, a 36-year-old IT professional named Vishal Pramod Salvi ended his life by jumping into a riverbed in Bopodi, Pune, following continuous harassment and humiliation by his manager. This incident, which occurred on June 21, 2024, came to light after the Free Press Journal reported it on Monday.

Vishal, who was recently dismissed from his job, blamed his manager, Zeeshan Haider, for persistent threats and public humiliation, which led to his drastic decision. A note left by Vishal before his death detailed the harassment he endured and explicitly named Zeeshan Haider as the cause of his despair. He also posted Haider's picture on his WhatsApp status as a final act of revealing his tormentor.

Legal Action

Despite the incident occurring in June, a case was officially registered on July 21, 2024, after Vishal's sister, Preeti Amit Kamble, lodged a complaint at Khadki Police Station. Preeti, a resident of Pimple Gurav, stated in the FIR that her brother had been subjected to ongoing harassment and public humiliation by his manager, Zeeshan Haider, at the IT company in Yerwada where Vishal had worked for the past ten years.

FIR Details

The FIR further mentioned that Zeeshan Haider had previously threatened Vishal with dismissal, eventually following through on this threat. The constant pressure and final termination were cited as the reasons Vishal took his own life by jumping into the riverbed on the night of June 21.

Police Statement

Pune Police have registered a case against Zeeshan Haider under Section 306 (Abetment of Suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for inciting Vishal to commit suicide. However, the accused has not yet been arrested.

"The accused has not been arrested yet. We have registered the case and are investigating the matter; appropriate action will be taken against the culprit," the Free Press Journal quoted a senior police officer from Khadki Police Station as saying.

The police are currently investigating the matter to gather more evidence and ensure that justice is served. This case highlights the severe consequences of workplace harassment and the critical need for a supportive and respectful work environment.
