Rajkot Couple Arrested for Multi-Crore Fraud; Duped 103 People of 3 Crores
Rajkot: In a significant development, a couple from Rajkot has been arrested for allegedly duping 103 individuals of a total of 3 crores by promising high returns from stock market investments. The accused, Rahul Soni and his wife Aditi Soni, had initially gained the trust of their victims by offering returns as high as 22 percent for the first four months.
The couple, who had been on the run for the past one and a half years, was apprehended in Hubli, Karnataka. The Rajkot police carried out the operation based on a tip-off and successfully arrested the duo. The accused are now in police custody and have been remanded for eight days.
According to the police, Rahul and Aditi Soni had lured investors with the promise of high returns from stock market investments. After gaining their confidence, they disappeared with the investors' money, amounting to 3 crores.
A case has been registered against the couple under charges of criminal conspiracy and sections of the Gujarat Protection of Interest of Depositors (GPID) Act.
Police Statement:
A police officer involved in the operation stated, "Based on a confidential tip-off, we conducted a raid in Hubli, Karnataka, and arrested Rahul and Aditi Soni. They have been charged with duping 103 individuals by promising high returns from stock market investments. The investigation is ongoing, and we are looking for any additional accomplices involved in the scheme."
This arrest brings to light the increasing incidents of financial fraud where individuals are lured with promises of high returns, only to lose their hard-earned money. The police have urged the public to exercise caution and verify the credentials of investment schemes before committing their funds.
