Traffic Chaos at Kesavadasapuram Junction as New Signal System Begins Trial Run

Kesavadasapuram

Thiruvananthapuram – A new traffic signal system was installed at the Kesavadasapuram Junction, and the trial run commenced on Friday. The introduction of the signal system led to significant traffic disruptions, causing gridlock even on a holiday. The traffic congestion was so severe that the signal had to be turned off to allow vehicles to pass, resulting in nearly two hours of slow-moving traffic.

The Traffic Police explained that the signal system is currently operating on a trial basis during the weekends to determine the optimal time intervals for vehicles from different directions to pass. Once the trial run is completed, and the necessary adjustments are made, the signal system will be fully operational.

Kesavadasapuram Junction is a crucial intersection, connecting major roads leading to the Medical College, Ulloor, Sreekariyam, Nalanchira, Venjaramoodu, and Kottayam. The sudden implementation of the signal caused vehicles to come to an unexpected halt, leading to long traffic jams that persisted from morning until evening. To alleviate the situation during peak hours, the police had to manually manage the traffic by turning off the signal system and controlling the flow.

The trial run of the new traffic signal has highlighted the need for adjustments to prevent future disruptions, and the system will be modified accordingly before being fully activated.
