Amrapali Buyers Still Waiting After 14 Years: Thousands of Flats Incomplete

Amrapali — After a long and frustrating wait of 14 years, thousands of homebuyers of Amrapali projects are still struggling to get possession of their homes. Even after a Supreme Court ruling in 2019 that gave hope to the buyers, many are still left without their promised flats. The court had dissolved the Amrapali board and handed over the responsibility of completing the construction to NBCC (National Buildings Construction Corporation), with a mandate to complete 38,000 flats within three years. However, five years later, the dream of owning a home remains elusive for many.

Status of Flat Possessions

According to reports from NBCC, out of the 38,000 flats under construction, 22,014 have been completed and handed over to the court receiver. Yet, only 8,000 buyers have been given possession of their homes. The rest are still left waiting, despite NBCC's claim of having completed the construction in 16 different projects. Many buyers have refused possession due to the absence of basic amenities like electricity, water supply, sewage treatment plants, lifts, and generators.

Buyers' Concerns Over Incomplete Projects

The frustrations of the buyers stem from incomplete infrastructure and lack of facilities. Several buyers have expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the projects. While some refuse to take possession due to the absence of basic facilities, others are held up by legal hurdles. NBCC claims to have finished construction on several projects, but in many cases, essential services such as power supply and waste treatment plants are still not operational. This has led to significant delays in handing over completed homes to the buyers.

Growing Discontent Among Buyers

Buyers have voiced their frustrations regarding unfinished projects. For instance, only two of the promised projects, including the high-profile Eden Park, have been fully completed and handed over. Buyers from other projects are left in limbo. Many have expressed that they have lost faith in the process, especially after waiting for over a decade. The lack of security, cleanliness, and recreational facilities has only added to their woes, making their long-awaited homes far from livable.

Despite the promises and court mandates, the process of handing over completed homes is still moving at a slow pace. The court receiver is managing the distribution of completed flats, but legal disputes and unfinished amenities are delaying the overall progress. Homebuyers are calling for stronger action to ensure that their flats are completed and provided with all basic services, so they can finally move into their homes after such a long and stressful wait.
