Ashneer Grover and BharatPe Settle Legal Disputes, Part Ways - Read Here
In a significant development, BharatPe, the fintech unicorn, has reached a decisive settlement with its former co-founder, Ashneer Grover. On September 30, 2024, BharatPe announced that Grover would no longer be associated with the company in any capacity, signaling an end to their turbulent relationship. The official statement highlighted BharatPe's focus on growth and profitability, wishing Grover well for the future.
Settlement Reached After Legal Disputes
Grover also acknowledged the settlement on social media, expressing his faith in BharatPe's management and board while announcing that he would no longer hold any official role or be part of the company's capital table. His remaining shares will be managed by his family trust. He concluded by hoping for BharatPe’s continued success. This mutual settlement marks an end to the legal battles between Grover and BharatPe, as both sides agreed not to pursue the cases further.
Background: Legal and Financial Turmoil
This settlement follows months of disputes between Grover and BharatPe, which escalated after Grover and his family were accused of financial irregularities, leading to his exit from the company in 2022. Notably, Grover’s brother-in-law, Deepak Gupta, was recently arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in connection with an alleged ₹81-crore fraud at BharatPe. The company had filed a criminal complaint against several members of Grover's family, including his wife Madhuri Grover, accusing them of causing significant financial losses through illegitimate payments and sham transactions.

Ashneer Grover’s New Ventures
Despite the legal challenges, Ashneer Grover is moving ahead with his new business ventures. After leaving BharatPe, Grover founded Third Unicorn and launched CrickPe, a fantasy sports platform, in 2023. He is now reportedly working on ZeroPe, an app for medical loans, showing that his entrepreneurial journey continues unabated.
BharatPe’s Path Forward: IPO on the Horizon
As BharatPe moves beyond its disputes with Grover, the company is preparing for its initial public offering (IPO). In April 2024, BharatPe appointed Nalin Negi as its new CEO, a decision that positions the company for its next phase of growth. With prominent investors like Ribbit Capital, Peak XV Partners (previously Sequoia Capital India), and Insight Partners backing the fintech startup, BharatPe is well-positioned to tap into public markets soon.
The resolution of the Grover dispute allows BharatPe to focus solely on delivering innovative financial solutions to its customers and growing its business, free from the shadow of its past controversies.
