CoinDCX’s “Harami” Tumbler Sparks Buzz, But There's a Smart Twist Behind It

One of India's top crypto exchanges, CoinDCX, recently made waves on social media with a strange piece of merchandise—a tumbler with the word "Harami" written on it. With the word having been used as an insult in Hindi, the campaign first left many users stunned and bewildered.

But online outrage swiftly gave way to curiosity, even admiration, after a timely clarification by CoinDCX founder Sumit Gupta, who explained the technical context in which the word was used.

What Triggered the Controversy?

When CoinDCX released the "Harami" tumbler on platform X (previously Twitter), most users thought the exchange was employing slang or profanity in its branding. Some even doubted the professionalism of a well-known platform releasing such a product.

But before the controversy could get out of hand, Sumit Gupta intervened to clarify that the term "Harami" is not an insult here, but a popular candlestick pattern employed in technical analysis.

"Harami" — A Genuine Trading Terminology

A Harami, in Japanese candlestick charting, is referred to as a "pregnant" two-candle formation. It happens when a smaller candle develops inside the body of a large preceding candle, indicating the possibility of reversal of the trend. It is either bullish or bearish depending on the market trend.

Gupta invited followers to "Do your research" and familiarize themselves with Harami candles, pointing out that this was an innovative method of informing users about technical trading terminology.

More Than Just Merch—It's About Awareness

CoinDCX has a track record of employing offbeat campaigns to get users involved. Previously, it had announced Bitcoin Chai Cafes plans, blending crypto with mainstream culture. The "Harami" tumbler is another move in its efforts to popularize crypto trading as cool, accessible, and informative.

By combining humor with actual trading information, CoinDCX is trying to de-mystify crypto jargon and initiate discussions—even if it begins with a bit of controversy.

Conclusion: Context Is Key

As can be easily misunderstood with language, CoinDCX's ad teaches us that the context is always important. "Harami" is not a swearword—it's actually a real technical term in trading circles. That this happened teaches us that there's value to knowing the terminology before jumping into conclusions.

The next time one hears someone reference a Harami Pattern, take notes rather than take offense—because it just might mean that the market has something big lined up.
