In a dramatic twist, coming amidst much speculation over the much-hyped JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar merger, a Delhi-based tech entrepreneur has reportedly bagged the coveted domain name JioHotstar.com. This development comes amidst growing speculations over the merger, insiders say, which they believe might go on to dominate the Indian streaming landscape and might end up creating some kind of behemoth in the market.
It is currently showing a basic web page with the banner of "JioHotstar: Best of Entertainment, Streaming Soon," but no proper branding seems to be there. The domain owner has posted a message intended for the officials of Reliance Industries, the parent company of JioCinema.
The developer detailed how they bought the domain upon learning of Disney+ Hotstar's losses, such as losing the streaming rights for IPL and declining in daily users concurrently with it. He got inspired by the idea that Reliance can buy out Hotstar and didn't wait anymore. The message also explains the developer's desire for higher education at Cambridge University on account of financial restraints. They propose selling the domain to Reliance so that they would be able to fund their education.
The techie in the mail said, "For a multi-billion dollar company like Reliance, this would be a small expense, but for me, the sale of this domain would be truly life-altering." They emphasized that an official letter by Reliance or Viacom, giving authorizations to buy the domain was a must.
