Elon Musk is back on top as he reclaimed the title of world’s richest person. Musk achieved the title after SpaceX finished its second round of funding. Tesla CEO is now at the very top of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Musk’s wealth rose to $199.9 billion after his rocket company completed the latest funding round.
From a group of investors led by Sequoia Capital, Musk’s space startup, SpaceX, raised $850 million in fresh funding this month. His rocket company is valued at $74 billion. It is 60 per cent more than August last year. Owing to the round, Elon Musk’s net worth has jumped about $11 billion.
Musk surpasses Amazon’s Jeff Bezos
It is interesting to note that Elon Musk surpassed Amazon.com Inc. CEO Jeff Bezos to become the wealthiest person on Earth. Earlier this week, Bezos had briefly reclaimed the title of the world’s richest person because Tesla’s shares fell down a little. Bezos had overtook Musk earlier this week with $194.2 billion to become the richest man.
Last week, Tesla had announced that it has invested $1.5 billion in the Bitcoin cryptocurrency. The announcement led to a surge in the price of one Bitcoin, which has even surpassed $50,000 per coin. Now, Elon Musk has reclaimed the title once again. For the second time in 2021, the Tesla chief has dominated the billionaire index.
Tesla said it will also “begin accepting Bitcoin as a form of payment for our products in the near future”.
Elon Musk invites Vladimir Putin
Interestingly, Tesla CEO recently made headlines as he invited Russian President Vladimir Putin for a chat session. Elon Musk invited Putin to have a discussion surrounding Clubhouse, a social media application. While the Russian President isn’t active on social media, a spokesperson for the Kremlin told Bloomberg that the invitation was “undoubtedly very interesting.”
