FASTag, the automatic toll plaza payment system are mandatory for all vehicles in India from Sunday midnight.
“Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry has decided that all lanes in the fee plazas on National Highways shall be declared as ‘FASTag lane of the fee plaza’ from midnight of 15th/16th February 2021,” PIB said in a statement.
Any vehicle without FASTag will have to pay twice the fee for the category of the vehicle they are driving at electronic toll plazas across India.
Moreover, government clarified that the step is for promoting fee payment through digital mode. It will reduce the waiting time and fuel consumption. It will also provide for a seamless passage through the fee plazas.
FASTag is a simple to use, reloadable tag. It enables automatic deduction of toll plaza charges. FASTag lets you pass through without stopping for any cash transaction. It has a one-time fee of ₹200.
