Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while presenting the Union Budget 2021, announced to extend PM Ujjwala Scheme to cover 1 crore more beneficiaries with LPG connections.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), which aims to distribute 8 crores LPG connections among BPL households, was launched on May 1, 2016.

The scheme will ensure the benefit of Rs 1, 600 for each LPG connections of the BPL households.
In coordination with the state governments and union territory authorities, the BPL beneficiaries are being identified to distribute LPG connections.
As many as three state-owned Oil Marketing companies, IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL had rolled out this scheme in the states and UTs across the country. They achieved their target of 8 crores connections in September 2019.
