The GST Council decreased the Goods and Services Tax on liquid jaggery, pencil sharpeners, and certain tracking devices on Saturday, according to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
In a press conference following the 49th meeting of the GST Council, the minister also stated that reports from the GoM (Group of Ministers) on combating tax evasion by the pan masala and gutkha industries, as well as Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunals (GSTATs), had been taken into consideration.
She further stated that all GST compensation payments will be made, including Rs 16,982 crore for the month of June.
The finance minister further stated that the GST Council has resolved to rationalise late fines on yearly Tax returns filed after the due date.
The meeting was attended by finance ministers from states and UTs (with legislatures), as well as top officials from the Union Government and states.
