India Becomes 3rd Most Powerful Country in Asia, Surpasses Japan - Report

Most Powerful Country in Asia: India's influence in the world continues to grow, and now, a new report confirms that India has overtaken Japan to become the third most powerful country in the Asia-Pacific region. According to the Asia Power Index, published by the Lowy Institute, India is now just behind the United States and China in terms of power and influence.

The Asia Power Index evaluates the strength of 27 countries, including the United States, China, Japan, Australia, and Russia, based on various factors like economic capacity, military strength, and diplomatic influence. The 2024 edition of the index highlights India’s remarkable post-pandemic recovery and its growing global importance.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in a statement, attributed India's rise to its growing economy, young population, and increasing geopolitical influence. India's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is currently the 5th largest in the world, and it is projected to become the 3rd largest in the coming years. The country has also seen significant growth in its military and diplomatic impact, further boosting its status on the global stage.

The report points out that while the United States remains the most powerful country in the Asia-Pacific with 81.7 points, and China follows closely with 72.7 points, India is making rapid strides. India's score has significantly improved, with an increase in its economic capacity by 4.2 points due to its strong GDP growth. The country’s potential demographic benefit also helped boost its future resource score by 8.2 points.

Interestingly, while India’s closest neighbor Pakistan lags far behind, ranking 16th with just 14.6 points, India has solidified its standing as a regional power. Defense agreements like the BrahMos missile deal with the Philippines and active participation in groups like the Quad have further strengthened India's geopolitical position without the need for formal military alliances.

India's young and growing population is expected to continue fueling its economic expansion and influence in the years to come.
