Indian Techies Are A 'Different Breed', Says CEO; Know The Reason Why
In the corporate world, many employees often find themselves feeling overworked and overwhelmed. Late nights, strict deadlines, and the constant push to prepare for events are commonplace. While work is a significant part of our lives, it’s essential to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Recently, Roshan Patel, Founder and CEO of Arrow, took to social media to share a striking example of how some employees forget to take time off from work.
Roshan Patel shared a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, "Indian engineers are a different breed." The post depicted a conversation between Mr. Patel and one of his employees. Concerned about the employee's well-being, Mr. Patel suggested that the employee take some time off.
“Hey, noticed you haven't taken any time off in a while. Just checking in and definitely encourage you to take a break if needed!” Mr. Patel wrote. The engineer's response was unexpected: “I don’t need a break, sir. My body is a vessel for the company to find product-market fit.”
Public Reaction
The post quickly went viral, garnering over four million views and 75,000 likes. The reaction from users was a mix of admiration and concern.
One user humorously commented, “Elon Musk searching for him,” highlighting the engineer's extreme dedication. Another user shared their experience, “They really are though. Once worked at a consultancy where the majority of my team was Indian. They grind like no other. Potluck days were on another level too.”
However, some users pointed out the underlying issues. “If you haven’t noticed the underlying sarcasm, you haven’t worked with Indian engineers enough,” one user remarked. Another added, “People who have built something will 100% relate to this, others might just call this toxic.”
The Broader Message
The conversation sparked a broader discussion about the corporate culture and the importance of taking breaks. One user emphasized, “Corporate doesn’t owe you anything. Get a life beyond your job; they only care about themselves and their profits.” Another user reflected on their own experiences, saying, “This is actually PTSD from working under toxic Indian management for years.”
Roshan Patel’s post sheds light on the extreme dedication of some employees and serves as a reminder of the importance of work-life balance. While dedication and hard work are valuable traits, it’s crucial for both employers and employees to recognize the need for rest and personal time. Maintaining a healthy balance between work and personal life is essential for long-term productivity and well-being.
