India’s Coal Production Increases by 2.49% in September 2024: A Positive Trend - Read Now
India’s coal production saw a boost in September 2024, reaching 68.94 million tonnes (MT). This is a 2.49% increase compared to 67.26 MT produced in the same month last year. The ministry of coal reported that this growth reflects the country's ongoing efforts to improve coal production and meet rising energy demands.
So far in the fiscal year 2024-25, India’s total coal production has reached 453.01 MT, which is a 5.85% increase from 427.97 MT in the previous year. The rise in production is essential for bolstering India’s energy security and achieving self-sufficiency in coal supply.
Coal dispatches also saw a positive trend in September 2024. The total coal dispatched during the month was 73.37 MT, which is a 4.35% increase from 70.31 MT in September 2023. For the year up to September, cumulative coal dispatches reached 487.87 MT, showing a 5.54% growth compared to 462.27 MT during the same period last year.
Another notable point is the significant improvement in coal stock levels. As of September 29, 2024, the total coal stock at the country’s Dispatch, Collection, and Billing centers was 33.46 MT. This marks a substantial rise of 51.07% from 22.15 MT on the same date in 2023. This increase in stock is a positive sign that indicates the country's capacity to manage coal supply effectively.
