Franck Muller Launches Solana Watch Linking Blockchain to Luxury

Franck Muller has launched a Solana-inspired luxury watch that merges digital wallet functionality with premium design. Called a “phygital” product, it allows wearers to link their Solana wallet address to a QR code on the timepiece. However, rising crypto-targeted crimes raise concerns about the safety of publicly displaying crypto identities.

Franck Muller Launches Solana Watch Linking Blockchain to Luxury

Franck Muller, the Swiss luxury watchmaker, has again diluted the boundaries between high fashion and advanced blockchain technology. The Solana Watch, a limited-edition timepiece inspired by the Solana blockchain, brings physical craftsmanship together with digital identity — something that is now known commonly as "Phygital."

There will be only 1,111 pieces of this limited-edition timepiece produced, each of which will cost CHF 20,000 (around ₹20 lakh or $24,300).

What Sets the Solana Watch Apart?

This high-end watch is more than a fashion statement. The QR code built into the design in every watch directly refers to the wearer's Solana wallet address. That is, consumers are quite literally wearing their crypto wallet on their wrist — an aggressive intersection of blockchain and fashion.

The watch is specifically aimed at the Web3 user base, NFT enthusiasts, and crypto-natives, who wish to represent their digital life with poise and style.

Why It's Called a "Phygital" Product

Franck Muller calls the Solana Watch a "Phygital" innovation — combining physical product design with digital functionality. It's meant to be an expression piece for Web3 enthusiasts who see crypto not only as an investment opportunity, but also as an extension of their identity.

Security Risks Surrounding Public Crypto Identity

While collectors will be sure to be thrilled by the watch, serious questions are being asked about security threats. In recent years, there have been a number of major physical attacks on crypto holders:

  • Paymium CEO Pierre Noizat was nearly kidnapped in France.
  • The father of a crypto millionaire had a finger amputated during a robbery attempt.
  • Ledger wallet co-founder David Balland and his wife were kidnapped from their residence.

These shocking incidents have generated controversy around the safety of publicly showing crypto-connected gadgets, particularly those with clearly visible wallet information.

Is It Safe to Wear a Solana Watch in Public?

Since the QR code on the watch directly points to a public Solana wallet address, any person who scans it can potentially reach wallet information or estimate its worth. This enhances the danger of physical targeting, robbery, or kidnapping — currently a top concern in the crypto space.

While the idea is trendy and futuristic, experts caution that wearing blockchain-tracked devices outdoors could leave users vulnerable to serious risks, particularly as crypto-related offenses increase around the world.

Crypto Meets Couture: The Trend Continues

Though there's been cause for concern, the marriage of crypto and luxury seems irrepressible. Franck Muller has already released watches made in honor of Bitcoin and Ethereum. Solana Watch is part of an increasing trend where blockchain identity is a symbol of luxury status in the physical world — not only in the digital realm.

With Web3 growth, such "phygital" developments are bound to become more common-place — but they will have to tread the tightrope between fashion and safety.
