The United States Tuesday retained India among other countries on its currency manipulation watchlist. This is for the second time when India was added to the watchlist.
As per the US Treasury Department report, 11 economies warrant placement on Monitoring List of major trading partners – China, Japan, South Korea, Germany, Ireland, Italy, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Mexico.
India meets three criteria that the United States uses to assess if a country has manipulated currency. India’s goods trade surplus with US was24 billion dollar in 2020, as per the report.
India also ran a 8 billion dollar services trade surplus with the United States in 2020.
