While Air India undergoes a huge overhaul, rumours have circulated that the famed Maharaja mascot may be stripped of his responsibilities. Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India, reiterated this week that the Maharaja would continue to be “part of Air India’s future.” Since being acquired last year, the Tata Group has made a number of adjustments as it strives to become a prominent participant in the global aviation industry.
But, the Maharaja will not be a part of these reforms.
The Maharaja has established his identity both domestically and internationally, and the Maharaja’s mascot has received a great deal of support from the populace. Because to Air India’s 90-year history, Maharaja is just one of the many assets the company possesses. The company’s future will include it. During a Monday media event, Wilson gave assurances.
Which adjustments has Air India previously announced?
The business has already made plans to quadruple its 113-aircraft fleet within a few years. The airline will spend $70 billion on the deal, which will be paid for with internal funds, stock, and sale-and-leaseback transactions, to buy 220 planes from Boeing and 250 from Airbus. It also intends to invest $400 million on the refurbishment of older aircraft, particularly for long-distance flights.
In order to satisfy the growing demand, the company is now adding crew workers. According to Wilson, 500 new crew members are hired on average each month, and a training academy is also being developed.
By the second half of 2024, Wilson predicted, “you would have a totally different experience when you travel Air India wide body with new aircraft and with the refurbishing of aircraft.”
In the recent months, the business has also announced mergers between Vistara and Air India as well as AIX Connect, formerly known as AirAsia India, and Air India Express.
