Assam Edu Minister: Govt to give financial help, scooters to girl students

Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has recently announced that the state government will give financial help and scooters to girl-students.

This is aimed at encouraging girl students to attend classes regularly. He said on January 3, 2021, that the state government is distributing 22,000 among girl students who passed class 12th with first division marks.

The distribution of the two-wheelers is being carried out under Pragyan Bharti Scheme, he said at Sivasagar on Sunday.

The government will incur an expenditure of Rs 144.30 crore to give scooters to all those girl students who passed state board exams with first division.

The distribution of the two-wheelers will be done even if the number crosses a lakh, the education minister was quoted as in a media report.

The girl students who passed class 12 examinations with first division marks in 2018 and 2019 will get scooters. Financial aid would also be given to all girl students from school to post-graduate. The scheme would be launched by the end of this month.

Under the scheme, every girl school student would get Rs 100 every day to attend their classes. Besides this, a total of Rs. 1500 and Rs. 2, 000 would be given to undergraduate and postgraduate girl students respectively, he said.
