The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Biotechnology for cooperation in Polar Biology.
The agreement aims to ensure cooperation to bring out expertise and services of two organizations under one roof for addressing relevant questions in the area of polar biology, the Ministry of Science and Technology said in a statement.
The ministry also added that the center of this collaboration could particularly be the biotechnological applications of polar microbes.
“The MoU will be implemented with the aim to collaborate in mutually agreed-upon thrust areas of research in the area of polar sciences,” the statement said.
Researchers from MoES would take efforts through collaborative proposals in the early-stage under this agreement. They will use MoES’ resources available in the polar region. The MoES owns research stations in the Arctic and the Antarctica regions. According to the statement issued by the MoES, joint laboratories will be built at the MoES stations to expedite the research in the polar region.
This will facilitate researchers to do experiments on the site. They would not require transporting samples to the parent labs in India.
