Class 12 examinations will be conducted only for major subjects, according to the Indian Express, the Central Board of Secondary Education has proposed.
Out of 174 subjects offered to students, only 20 are considered majors by CBSE. The major subjects offered by CBSE include Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, History, Political Science, Business Studies, Accountancy, Economics, and English.
According to the sources, the CBSE has proposed two options to the Education Minister for holding exams of major subjects.
At a meeting, these options will be discussed by the state education ministers and state education secretaries. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will chair this meeting.
The meeting will also be attended by the education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal, Information, and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar, and Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani.
While one option proposes to hold exams of major subjects in existing format at designated exam centers, the second one allows students to appear in their major subjects’ examinations at their schools. The assessment of students would be made based on their performance in the exams.
