Due to an rise in the novel coronavirus cases, many states have decided to shut educational institutions. Earlier, the schools were reopened in Jauary after a year. However, once again the governments are shutting schools and colleges.
After the reopening of schools and colleges, the country witnessed an alarming increase in the number of coronavirus cases. After the general spike in cases in March, states like Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, other states have shut down their educational institutions again.

Owing coronavirus cases, the government of Punjab issued a notice to close educational institutes. The decision has been taken as a safety measure for the students. The latest guideline has come into effect from March 31. However, the entire teaching and non-teaching staff will continue to attend on all working days. Notably, the exams for classes 3 to 8 will continue as per the schedule. Meanwhile, the position for online exams for classes 9 to 12 will be reviewed. Any further instruction is yet awaited.
The government of Uttar Pradesh announced on Friday that schools will remain till class 8 will closed till April 4. Earlier, the state government had decided to shut the schools till March 31. However, the date was further pushed till April 4. In the latest development, the school will remain shut till April 11. The schools have also been asked to regularly sanitize the premises and ensure social distancing norms.
Schools in Madhya Pradesh for classses 1 to 8 will remain closed to April, the government announced. The decision was taken due to the increasing cases of the novel coronavirus. The state government had earlier decided to reopen classes 1 to 8 from April 1.

The Himachal Pradesh government had issued a notification for the closure of every educational institution. These institutes were to remain shut till April 4. However, in the latest development, the government of Himachal Pradesh pushed the day till April 15. Some primary schools in the state were already closed due to the COVID-19 threat.
The Puducherry government has asked schools, educational institutions to shut down from March 22. The junior classes, as being communicated will reopen on May 31.
Since Delhi is witnessing a high number of coronavirus cases, the state government has decided to close schools until further notice.
Due to the COVID-19 surge in the state, the Telagana government decided to close down all schools and educational institutions across the state on March 24. The schools are to remain shut until further notice.
The eight major disctricts of Gujarat – Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Vadodara, Surat, Bhavnagar, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, and Junagadh- have decided to close the schools till April 10.
Meanwhile, states like Karnataka have decided to keep educational institutes open. CM Yediyurappa said that children were more discipilined at school than at home. He told mediapersons that children will follow social distancing, will wear masks and use sanitisers when at home. However, several private schools have decided to move all classes back to only online mode in the wake of the second wave.
