Meet ‘world’s youngest author’, a 7-year-old girl from Ghaziabad

Published Date:

A 7-year-old girl, who is the granddaughter of poet duo Rashtrakavi Maithilisharan Gupt and Santkavi Shri Siyaramsharan Gupt, has become a published author.

Abhijita Gupta, a class 2 student who lives in Ghaziabad, has been recognized as the ‘world’s youngest author’ by The International Book of Records. She has been conferred with the title of ‘Grandmaster in Writing’ by Asia Book of Records.

According to India Book of Records, she is the youngest author to write poetry and prose. During the pandemic, she wrote her book titled ‘Happiness All Around’.

The book has illustrations, all drawn by her, while the short stories and poems provide glimpse into the mind of a child.

Abhijita started writing at a tender age of five. The COVID-19 lockdown gave her wings as she spent her time writing to stay engaged.

“The surroundings and even the little things inspire me. I write about positive things — what I hear, see or feel,” says Abhijita.

Abhijita stays with her parents Ashish Gupt and ANupriya Gupta.

“Though she was just introduced to phoentics, we gave her books with full sentences and she managed to read them pretty well,” says her mother.

“We always wanted her to treat books as her best friend, so that she stays away from tv and mobile,” she says.

“We still remember the day she came to us and asked for a pencil and a notebook as she wanted to write a story. She barely knew three- or four-letter words at the time but managed to finish a whole story on why it was important to eat healthy food,” says her mother Anupriya Gupta.

“We were shocked, and so were her grandparents and teachers,” she adds.

Abhijita, who is a fun-loving girl, excelled in reading competitions and spellathons since nursery.

Abhijita is blessed with super observation skills and gets inspired by everything around her.

“That is why we try to explain the positive side of everything to her because she keeps thinking about whatever she has seen or heard and later expresses it through her pencil,” says her mother.

Her other interests include drawing, playing with Barbie dolls and studying a lot. She has expressed her love for studying in her poem ‘Study Is My Best Buddy’.

“Her teacher has always told us that Abhijita is a diamond and we are blessed parents indeed,” says mother Anupriya Gupta.

‘Happiness All Around’ is one of the only children’s books authored by a child. Invincible Publishers have published the book, which is available both as a hard copy and a Kindle edition.

Abhijita’s favourite poems in the book include — ‘Mother Earth’, ‘Let’s Try, Let’s Fly’, ‘Study Is My Best Buddy’, and ‘Precious Friendship.’
