PM Modi on Friday addressed the students of Viswa Bharti University through virtual conferencing. The university is hosting virtual convocation ceremony due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.
What did PM Modi say?
During his address, PM Modi said, “This education policy is a major milestone in the making of an Atmanirbhar Bharat. The new National Education Policy also breaks old restrictions and allows students to realize their full potential.”
“It allows flexibility in selection of subjects and medium of instruction. The policy promotes entrepreneurship and self employment; research and innovation,” the Prime Minister further added.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that the students across the country have become a beneficiary to free access to lakhs of journals by the Centre. In his speech, PM Modi also outlined that the Union Budget 2021 has set aside ₹50,000-crore for research.
In order to strengthen the ideo of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, PM Modi urged the students of Viswa Bharti University to come up with a vision document. He also asked them to develop a village around the university and make them self reliant.
Prime Minister speaks about the establishment of Viswa Bharti University
Talking about the establishment of the university, Prime Minister Modi said, “There is no boundary for creativity- with this thought, Gurudev led the foundation of the university.”
He further added, “It is not just a university, but a part of a vibrant tradition. If Gurudev wanted to see Vishwa Bharati as just a university, he could have named it Global University, but he named it Vishwa Bharati.”
PM Modi lauded Tagore’s contribution towards bringing self-reliance in Indian education system because he laid the foundation of Viswa Bharti. The event was also attended by West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar and Visva-Bharati vice chancellor professor Vidyut Chakraborty.
