A new mechanism would be prepared and implemented for admission to an undergraduate course in West Bengal, the authorities of higher educational institutes said on July 24, 2021. According to the new mechanism, students would not have to go through the entrance for admission in the undergraduate courses.
At the same time, city colleges’ principals and Jadavpur University authorities said that the result of this year’s WB HS exams was more balanced and scientific.
“This year’s higher secondary result appear to be more balanced and fair based on scientific evaluation process and even if any candidate feels she/he could have done better if offline exams were held that number will not be much high,” Siuli Sarkar, Principal of Lady Brabourne College, was quoted as telling PT.
Siuli Sarkar also said that the students would not have to wait for their turn, as we hope the admission will be based only on merit. According to Sarkar, the authorities are planning to introduce a mechanism that will give more importance to the 2019 class 10 board exams score during the admission process.
According to the officials, Jadavpur University, which offers undergraduate courses in Science and Arts, has sent an 80:20 formula to the state Higher Education Department for admission in its science stream.
“As per the formula 80 per cent marks will be based on the performance of the students at class 10 board level, her/his performance in the higher secondary, and 20 per cent on online discussion, interaction with the student. While no offline test can be held, we have sought the opinion of the higher education department about the feasibility of interacting with the candidate online, as decided by our faculty and university management,” the official said. The officials also added that the final decision will be taken by Saturday next week.
